Based in Croydon, Martek started out as a conventional shopfitter in the retail sector in 1982.
In the very early days however, it became apparent that in order to take total control of quality, it was necessary to manage the entire manufacturing process.
For the cinema industry, we design and manufacture all of the interior systems which comprise the retail operation. Typically box offices and food concession areas, but can also include bars, coffee shops, restaurants and other revenue generative areas appropriate to cinemas. In the UK we work for Odeon/UCI, Cineworld/UGC, Showcase cinemas and a number of independent operators. We also have an established client base throughout Europe, the Far East and the US.
In healthcare, we design and install reception areas, nursing bases and treatment rooms. We have worked on a host of major hospital development projects over the past 10 years which have included The Evelina Children’s Hospital, part of Guys St Thomas’s, the recently completed UCLH in London, Pembury Hospital in Tonbridge wells and we are soon to reach the end a three year project working with Carillion on the soon to be opened Southmead hospital in Bristol. Our designs, construction methods and the materials we use have contributed significantly to our success in this sector, where the control of hospital-acquired infections is a key objective for the NHS.
At Martek we make continuous investments and improvements to our carbon footprint – Martek are one of only 1000 companies who have achieved accreditation under the Carbon Smart standard. We first became certified with blue in 2011, we then achieved silver status in 2016 and as of March 2018, we now hold Gold status.
