Design, manufacture, and installation of specialist healthcare joinery within a large-scale NHS PFI hospital project.

Pembury Hospital is a landmark PFI project and the first in the UK to provide 100% single-room accommodation with en-suite facilities, setting new standards for patient care and clinical environments.
Martek was appointed to deliver a comprehensive package of specialist healthcare joinery throughout the hospital, including 114 bespoke nursing stations and several feature reception desks designed to support clinical workflows and enhance staff and visitor experience.
A key element of the final phase was the development of bespoke fold-down carer beds within 27 paediatric unit locations, allowing family members to remain close to patients while maintaining safety and space efficiency.
Infection control was central to the specification, with antibacterial materials incorporated throughout. LG HI-MACS was used to all top boxes and horizontal surfaces, providing a seamless, non-porous finish that supports hygiene and durability.
Martek also completed the fit-out of the Costa Coffee café within the main atrium, contributing to the quality of the hospital’s public spaces.
